VISHNU/DEBA/HARI SAYAN EKADOSI

 

Hindu calendar have 24 ekadosi @2 per month. Out of which 4 are considered most sacred and auspicious and called bada ekadosi. Hari Sayana Ekadasi,(asadha sukla pakha), Sri Vishnu Parswa Paribartan Ekadosi(Bhadrab sukla pakha),Debautthapan Ekadasi( Kartik Sukla Pakha) and Bhoumi Ekadosi(Magha Sukla Paksha) are four important ekadosi dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Vishnu Sayana Ekadosi is first of the major and important ekadosi of the Hindu calendar falls 11 days of full moon days of asadha (suklapaksha ekadosi)month. From this days Lord Vishnu goes for long deep sleep(ananta sayana) for four months keeping  Lord Shiva  in charge of the entire universe.  More over from this day chaturmasya brata (four month long brata) started. Starting or concluding any auspicious works (suva karma) like marriage,laying foundation stones for houses/temple, thread ceremony,  Yogyan,digging of tanks,consecration of idols and temple,gruhaprabesh etc are completely forbidden during the ensuing  four months in Hindu religious traditions.  All the auspicious actions started after awakening of Lord Vishu from ananta sayana on  Debutthapan Ekadosi in the month of kartik.

Ekadosi is considered as most sacred day for observance of brata. One can observe Brata in this day.Brata is an Indian word means " by which prayer for heaven like pleasures,happiness and peace are called for". One can observe fasting on Ekadosi, as every Ekadosi  has it's own sanctity and gives specific result. Debasayana Ekadosi has specific sanctity and influences. Ekadosi brata is classified as classical (sastriya) or nitya  brata.

Debasayana ekadosi has some rules for the devotees to follow for the observance of the same and get the desired result.

.One has to fast for the day and can take light food like fruits,juice,milk and vegetables without seeds.

.Completely avoid cooked rice and non vegetarian foods including onion and garlic.

.Be calmed,honest,devoid of anger,comfort and sex etc.

.Maintain sanctity and avoid traditional bed to sleep.

. After bathing one can go for prayer of Vishnu,hear Vishnu Sahasranama strotrams, Read sacred scriptures like  Srimad Bhagabat Gita and Bhagabata etc.and if possible visit Vishnu temple like Lord Jagannath, Sri Krushnaa, Sri Ramchandra, Lord Nrusimha, Ranganathswamy, Sree Padmanabhaswamy,Venkateswar,Vittal Dev and Laxmi Narayan etc and offer obeisance to Lord

.Serve tulsi or basil plants and offer alms to the needy.

WHY DEBASAYAN EKADASI TO OBSERVE ?

Hindu tradition and faith says observance of the said ekadosi brata destroys all  the sins of a person. He gets rid of all the sufferings and all the desires get fulfilled. Mind, soul and body becomes pure with the faithful fasting  any observance without any confusion. One can avoid fatal accident by the grace of brata. Brata is not expensive and simple, can be observed by any one having faith on the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu.
